Let's face it, for the last few months my life has solely been focused on wedding, wedding, wedding and before that it was finishing my Masters. I need some other goals and what a perfect time to make them! With the wedding only a month away, I'm going to need something else to fill my time with after we get back from our honeymoon. When I saw Elsie's post on 4 Simple Goals, I knew I definintely needed to join in. So here we go! These are my 4 Simple Goals before 2011...
1. Spend more time with my beautiful nieces by having sleepovers or girl dates at least once a month.
I love these girls! Anna has been gone all summer with her dad so we are missing her like crazy. I had the chance to take Rosie on a date after Olive was born and we had so much fun. Spending time with the girls definitely restores me and makes me remember that not everything has to be go, go, go all the time. We can just sit back and watch movies or make cookies and everything is perfect.
2. Have date night once a week.
While Sheldon and I were dating and contemplating moving in together, I read a book called Shacking Up: The Smart Girl's Guide to Living in Sin Without Getting Burned. One thing I read and thought "surely not us," was that we should continue spending time with each other and dating because once you shack up, this usually becomes something of the past. Let me tell you, this is so true. We're lucky if we have date night once a month. I am a homebody. After a day at my day job I usually go work for a couple of hours in the studio. I'm usually tired and have no desire to leave the house. We need to get out more and go to the places we love more often!
3. Create a budget that will work for us and stick to it!
Have I ever mentioned that I'm horrible with money? Well I am, big time. Sheldon is really good with money, just not that great at saving. So as we make this transition to marriedom and merge our accounts, we have to find a plan that works. We've been brainstorming and have some ideas, but actually putting everything into action is going to be tough. I will gladly except advice on this. What works for your family?
4. Cut my hair.
I've had the same hairstyle or variations of it for years -- Layered with sideswept bangs (that's my senior picture above from almost 10 years ago). Now it is the longest it has ever been and I kind of hate it. But I don't want to cut it before the wedding. I'm perfectly fine staying in my comfort zone until after the big day. Maybe I'll get it cut while we're in Toronto. Who knows? I just know I need a change. Cutting off my hair has always been my way of controlling something when my life is out of control, but now, my life is perfectly in control and I just need something different and fun. Shortly after that photo above, I cut all of my hair off. That was the craziest thing I've ever done. You can see a really bad picture of it here.
So that's it. I'll be picking out some goal rewards and blogging as they are achieved. I'm excited!
