Every summer the library has the Summer at the Library reading program for kids and teens. In our library system, people who work in the offices can volunteer some hours to help at the libraries with summer reading. Today was my day to work. I figured I would be signing kids up for the summer reading program and all that jazz.
I was pleasantly surprised when one of the librarians thought of something else that they needed help with and asked a question that is music to a crafter's ears, "do you sew?"
"Yes!", I exclaimed.
I must admit I was excited about having a crafting task for the afternoon. They needed me to create some monster plushes that could be easily re-created by the teen volunteers. These are going to be handed out at a program after summer reading that has to do with Where the Wild Things Are. We looked in some plush books and found some patterns. I made them easier by making them out of felt and making the arms and legs only one piece that could be sewn into the body. This way the only thing that had to be stuffed is the body and the teens wouldn't have to sew on the inside and filp them inside out.
Anyway, here's what I made...
I think they turned out wonderfully.
Don't forget about the contest going on this week. It ends on Friday at 5 pm central.
