Last night found me knitting away on some wool wrist warmers. Say that five times fast. I used a long tail cast on and I didn't think I had a long enough tail to weave in when I was finished. I was too lazy to undo my cast on, so I just figured I would just figure something out when it came to "weave in the ends" time. That time came too soon and I was left with quite the predicament. Then I remembered what I had heard about "spit and friction." So I got another piece of yarn, sucked on the two ends (that yarn and my too short end), and placed them together and rubbed them vigorously between my fingers. It didn't work. I decided that my fingers didn't get hot enough so I tried plan b. I rubbed them between my palms for a couple of seconds and lo and behold (hallelujah chorus here) it worked!
I was a bit skeptical of the actual holding power of said action. They were now a complete piece of yarn and I couldn't even tell they had been separate before. I gave it a tiny tug and it stayed. In fact, no matter how hard I pulled on the pieces they were eternally fused together. Yay! I am now a devotee of the "spit and friction" method. If you haven't tried it you should.
Now that I've finished the wrist warmers, patterns are coming. Probably tomorrow. Be prepared!
